Common European FrameworkThe Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) was developed by the Council of Europe as an instrument for measuring language ability, thus providing educational institutions across Europe with a basis for standardizing language qualifications and assessment criteria. The CEFR focuses on the five primary language skills: listening, reading, spoken interaction, spoken production and writing. Each of these skills is assessed according to six different competency levels:
Basic user Independent user Proficient user A1 A2 B1 B2 C1 C2 Effective Operational Proficiency The CEFR is used at the intake to determine the entry level of the student. At the end of the course, the CEFR exit level is determined. Both levels are stated on the certificate. To move up one A-level, the student needs 40 hours of lessons. For the B-levels, 50 hours, and for the C-levels, 60 hours on average. Read more about the CEFR in the product description and in Wikipedia.
